Weekly Roundup for August 12th

Here is my weekly roundup for August 12th.

This has been a long time coming and was announced last month. Adobe said on July 25th that they are killing Flash. Flash was great when it came out and allowed developers to do the animation that browsers at the time could not handle. Unfortunately with all good things security issues and abuse by hackers crept in to the use of Flash plugins in browsers. Most security experts have warned users for several years to disable or remove the plugin. Click Here to read more.

An article on Ars Technica informs that Chrome Web Browser extensions have been hijacked to push adware. If you are running any of the extensions that were compromised you may want to disable them. Click Here to read more.

If you are interested in a long read, Info World has an article on 21 technologies transforming software development.

Not New, But New To Me
As a programmer/developer I am constantly learning something new. If you develop any custom software that interfaces with the Fishbowl Inventory Server you may be interested in this. You can send your own SQL Queries directly to the Fishbowl API. This capability has been around for two years and I am glad I came across it.

They recommend now use a series of random words that you can remember. Read the story at Gizmodo or the original on the Wall Street Journal.

Finally here is the July 2017 WordPress Attack Report from Wordfence. If you aren’t running some sort of security monitoring software and your WordPress site has not been secured from the more common attacks send me an email at john@panolatech.com.
