That was the message WordPress was giving me. I had done something stupid. I was impatient and navigated away from the update page while it was working.
I didn’t panic. I was sure I was not the first person using WordPress to have this problem so I did what every programmer worth their salt does and Googled the issue. So to help other people here is the solution since it won’t resolve itself without a little help.
- Fire up your FTP program or SSH to your WordPress server.
- Go to the root of the WordPress site.
- Locate a file called “.maintenance”.
- Delete the file.
